A shared mission.
A new chapter for rural communities.

REV and Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) have different histories and complementary strengths, but their work starts with the same belief: rural communities deserve the resources, relationships and opportunities to shape their own futures.

By bringing RARE's community-based service model together with REV's regional partnerships and university connections, we see an opportunity to build on more than three decades of experience and focus working on the needs of Eastern Oregon.

REV provides

  • Connections to Eastern Oregon University students and faculty

  • Regional relationships and community partnerships

  • Opportunities to connect learning, research and community priorities

RARE brings

  • More than 30 years of rural community service experience

  • A model that places emerging professionals in community-based projects

  • Experience building local capacity through planning, implementation and engagement

Together, the opportunity is to

  • Connect local needs with people and resources

  • Give communities added capacity to move important projects forward

  • Create meaningful opportunities for emerging professionals to learn through service

LOOKING AHEAD

Building on a legacy. Investing in Eastern Oregon.

RARE's next chapter is being developed with a regional focus through REV. The current plan is to welcome five new RARE members in 2027 to serve communities within REV's 10-county Eastern Oregon service area. Specific community placements and implementation details are in development.
