Final Call: One Month Left to Register for Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute

Time is running out to register for one of Oregon’s most unique summer learning adventures. Applications are still open for the Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute (CCSI)—but not for long. The deadline to register is just one month away for this immersive, college-credit field studies program set in the stunning Cottonwood Canyon State Park, happening June 15-20, 2025.

Now celebrating its 12th year, CCSI invites high school students to live and learn outdoors while exploring topics like storytelling, natural resources, and environmental science. Courses are led by a dynamic team of Eastern Oregon University faculty and local professionals who bring passion and expertise to every class session.

“Overall, it’s just a great experience, and definitely worth your time,” said one student alum. Another reflected, “CCSI helped me figure out who I want to be and gave me the tools to get there.”

Scholarships are available, so no one should count themselves out due to cost.

Deadline to register is May 15, 2025.

CCSI is supported by Oregon Parks Forever, Oregon Community Foundation, and the Roundhouse Foundation.

Set against the backdrop of the John Day River, this week-long residential program combines hands-on learning, college credit, and career exploration with a dash of summer adventure. Students stay on-site at Cottonwood Canyon State Park, forming connections with peers and mentors in an unforgettable setting.
