Property owners and individuals seeking housing in Northeast Oregon will benefit from information and resources compiled by local nonprofit organizations at an event next week. A ribbon cutting will celebrate the construction of two Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in Baker City which will be available for rent.

The ribbon cutting and open house will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 5 - 7 PM for property owners, public officials, and housing advocates interested in learning more about accessory dwelling units.

“This is an opportunity to gather property owners and local officials who are interested in addressing the housing shortage in Northeast Oregon,” said Laura Klement, local ADU builder and host for the event. “The goal of this project is to showcase what is possible through ADUs and empower local homeowners, like me, with the information they need to add housing and make a difference in their local community.”

This event is sponsored by a local coalition working together to address the housing shortage in Northeast Oregon. Brought together by the Rural Engagement and Vitality Center and the Northeast Oregon Economic Development District, with support from Rural Community Assistance Corporation, the coalition aims to inform the community about the benefits of ADUs. These benefits include expanding rental options, supporting multi-generational living, and potential new income for homeowners. In 2024, the state of Oregon implemented a requirement for cities over 2,500 in population to allow ADUs, or small, secondary homes on lots zoned for single dwellings to address housing shortages.

Space is limited. RSVP for the free event here: Eventbrite Link
